Cloudflare selected Vext Labs for Cloudflare for Startups, its program for early-stage companies, with a $100,000 program award. Vext Labs is an independent American AI research lab founded in 2026 by Annalea Layton, and the maker of JUWEL OS, an AI with her own computer.
The lab already builds on Cloudflare. R2 object storage holds model artifacts and corpus data, and Workers AI runs embedding pipelines behind JUWEL's knowledge store. The award deepens that footing and lets the lab keep its research discipline: prove each step, publish either way, including the failures.
